One Shade of Gray

Today's Weather...

...is a typically charming midwestern day: Hot AF, but also with a chance of thunderstorms, because yes, 87 percent humidity does seem insufficient, now that you mention it...

On the plus side, though, Sunday will be even hotter, and more humid...

"You get more sarcastic when the weather turns crummy, did you know that?"
And your point is...?

Things That Make Me Sad: Anticlimax Edition

Last night my beloved Kansas City Royals faced the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 2 of their four-game series at the Rogers Centre. It was also the debut of new Royals starting pitcher Johnny Cueto. To call his performance disappointing would be an understatement. You expect more out of a No. 1 "ace" than 6 innings, 7 hits, 2 walks, 3 earned runs, 4.50 ERA. When the bullpen faltered in the bottom of the 7th and allowed the game to be tied, it meant the team would end up using four different relievers, in a game they still lost 7-6 in 11 innings. When you roll your "ace" out there, he's supposed to stop losing streaks, and go deep enough that you don't need to burn through half your bullpen in one game.

"I can do much better, really."
I hope so, Johnny. The team needs you to do better...

In the next two games, the Royals will have to face long-time nemesis Mark Buehrle and former Detroit Tiger David Price (who has the fourth-lowest ERA in the league). Already lugging a three-game losing streak into this afternoon's game, getting swept in the four-game series is a realistic possibility...

Note to Future Interrogators

You won't need any medieval torture devices to make me talk. Just feed me this and I'll tell you anything you want to know...

Until Next Time...

On days like this, the appeal of music from guys like Chicago-style blues legend Buddy Guy is irresistible. Today's send-off is Buddy doing a smokin' performance of one of his signature tunes, "Damn Right, I've Got the Blues." Enjoy...
