Embarrassing
University of Missouri School of Law |
I've observed on numerous occasions that the dumbest ideas currently being promulgated in America live on its college campuses. One of the stupidest of these notions is the push to stamp out incivility on online social networking platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.
To my great embarrassment, the University of Missouri has joined the cavalcade of imbeciles, as its law school has announced a sweeping new "social media policy" that is both unconstitutional and illiterate.
You'll have to settle for reading the excerpts in the Reason and Above the Law: Redline articles to which I linked, as the university has (for now) removed the new policy from the law school's web page. I don't know if this means the policy is dead, or if it was withdrawn to fix the ungrammatical portions. Time will tell.
In the meantime, when it comes to these knuckleheaded attempts to bully people and control what they say or write, I'm with Mister Rogers...

Disappointing
Speaking of embarrassments, my beloved Missouri Tigers lost their fourth consecutive game last night, falling 31-13 to No. 24 Mississippi State at rain-drenched Faurot Field in Columbia. It is the longest Tiger losing streak in 11 seasons.
Freshman QB Drew Lock on the run |
One positive: The Tigers snapped their streak of touchdown-free quarters at 14, thanks to a 2nd quarter rushing score by Russell Hansbrough.
Missouri is now 4-5 on the season. Bowl dreams are a thing of the past. Tiger fans are now just hoping to avoid a losing season. It seems like a forlorn hope, given the remaining schedule...

Until Next Time...
During my high school and college years, I wasn't particularly a fan of the Steve Miller Band. I liked blues-rock, but there were other bands that appealed to me a lot more. That changed with the band's 1976 album Fly Like an Eagle. I certainly wasn't alone in my enthusiasm, as the album turns up on pretty much everyone's lists of greatest rock albums of all time, and received four platinum certifications."Rock'n Me" was the second single from the album, and it hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart on November 6, 1976. It was the band's second No. 1 single, and their first since "The Joker" two years earlier. It was also a glimmer of hope for those of us who liked guitar-based rock music, since 1976 was dominated by the sound that would come to be known as "disco."
Today's send-off is the version of "Rock'n Me" from the 30th Anniversary remaster issued in 2006. Enjoy...
